Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, offered a Starlink satellite internet terminal to an Iranian diplomat at the UN General Assembly on Thursday, urging him to take it back to Tehran — only for the Iranian representative to ignore him and walk away.

“It can be very useful to let the Iranian people get their freedom after what you did to them,” Danon told the diplomat, according to footage shared by Anadolu Agency and later posted by Danon himself. “We love the Iranian people and we pray for regime change in Iran. The day will come.”

The Iranian representative did not respond and turned away without accepting the device. Danon posted the clip on X with the caption: “The Iranian representative didn’t want the starlink :(”

The terminal was the same one Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu displayed during his address to the General Assembly on Wednesday, when he said Starlink technology could help ordinary Iranians bypass state internet censorship. Netanyahu said he would leave such devices with the UN for any Iranian delegates willing to defect.

Owning a Starlink terminal is illegal in Iran and can carry a lengthy prison sentence, though tens of thousands of Iranians are believed to use the devices covertly to bypass government firewalls — particularly since authorities have periodically imposed near-total internet blackouts during periods of unrest. Iran imposed a months-long internet blackout in January 2026 in response to widespread protests across the country, officially ending it in late May.
