India has delivered a sharp right of reply to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s UN General Assembly address, with First Secretary Petal Gahlot warning that “terrorism by Pakistan will have consequences” and dismissing Islamabad’s rhetoric as “hypocritical homilies”.

Speaking in New York on Friday, local time, Gahlot accused Pakistan of a “long-standing practice of cross-border terrorism”. “We demonstrated last year that terrorists will have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide,” she said. “Our right to defend ourselves against terrorism will be exercised and continued.”

Invoking the recent 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, she noted that al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden had been “living right on the doorstep of the Pakistani Army’s premier academy”, and described Pakistan’s government as a “Form 47 government” — “a regime of the army, by the army, and for the army” whose “puppets may come and go”.

Gahlot rejected Islamabad’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir, calling the territory an “integral and inalienable part” of India, and accused Pakistan of using “terrorism, deceit and duplicity” that would “neither benefit it nor the world”. “Reiterating falsehoods year after year does not make them true,” she said.

The reply followed Sharif’s address on the May 2025 India-Pakistan conflict, the Indus Waters Treaty and Kashmir, The Tribune reported.
