Iran's parliament speaker warns no Gulf country will export oil if Iran's are blocked

Iran’s parliamentary speaker said on Tuesday that no country in the region would be able to export oil if the Islamic Republic is prevented from selling its own oil, Iranian state media reported, according to Reuters.

Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf added that “no regional infrastructure would be safe if Iran had no security,” The Hindu reported from Dubai, citing the state media reports.

Kurdistan 24 carried a fuller translation of Ghalibaf’s remarks, quoting him as telling Washington and other countries: “as we said before, in a region where we cannot sell oil, no one will sell oil, and if our security is not guaranteed, no infrastructure will be safe.”

The warning lands as Washington and Tehran remain locked in confrontation over the Strait of Hormuz, the shipping lane through which Gulf producers move most of their crude. Oil markets reflected the risk on Tuesday, with crude trading around $107 a barrel in Indian-market coverage of the session.

Separately, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards spokesperson dismissed US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks as lies, telling American media that “Trump is a big liar,” according to an Economic Times liveblog of the conflict’s latest developments.

On the diplomatic track, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi was due to meet Qatari mediators in New York on Tuesday, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported via Al Mayadeen, as mediators work on proposals involving the strait, sanctions relief and renewed nuclear talks.
